A Tribute to Vinyl and the Analog Music Experience
Since its emergence in the late 1800s, the analog record has endured through the birth of radio, the rise and fall of CDs and MP3s, and the dawn of streaming music. Instead of competing with superior playback equipment and being overtaken, the analog record chose to forgo convenience and shift towards becoming a "connector." This decision has made the position of vinyl records even stronger.
The way we engage with pencils and notebooks differs from how we engage with keyboards and touchscreens. Similarly, the way we approach records is fundamentally different from how we interact with digital music. From the rich, uncompressed sound to the artwork and liner notes, the story embedded in a vinyl record is eloquently conveyed both visually and acoustically. This is why Henry Rollins, an iconic figure in the music scene, when discussing all the ways to listen to music, commented, "The record is the best medium for reproducing the sound that musicians want to share." Listening to music on vinyl not only connects the physical and emotional aspects between the music and the listener, but also strengthens the bond between musicians and their fans.
Blackwing 33 1/3 was created to honor vinyl. Featuring matte black metal hardware and a wood shaft, it is adorned with black foil stamping and an eraser. The glossy black foil applied to the grip area is inspired by the grooves of a vinyl record. Additionally, the number "33 1/3" refers to the record's rotation speed.
