TENUGUI
Material: 100% Cotton
Size: 37x90cm
• These are original tenugui (Japanese hand towels) dyed using the traditional Japanese technique known as chūsen (notezome).
They are available in two designs: “CREST,” featuring the SHARMENTS crest, and “DECO,” which reinterprets traditional Japanese patchwork patterns in an Art Deco style.
Since each piece is dyed entirely by hand, no two tenugui have exactly the same appearance. As you continue to use it, the twist in the threads gradually relaxes, making the fabric softer and fuller over time.
The edges are left raw, so it dries quickly and is hygienic. When you first start using it, some fraying will occur, but if you patiently and regularly trim the loose threads, the fraying will eventually settle down. Once the edges form a natural fringe, it is considered “complete.” The towel’s character changes with continued use, offering the joy of nurturing it over time.
I think it’s stylish to discreetly tuck one into the pocket of a classic outfit and use it to wipe sweat, wrap items, or tie things up.
* Since all pieces are hand-dyed, there may be individual variations in pattern bleeding.
We would be grateful if you could appreciate these as part of the unique charm.
* To prevent color transfer, please wash the tenugui alone in plenty of water 2–3 times before first use.
* As you continue to use it, loose threads may appear from the edges. If you regularly trim the protruding threads, the fraying will gradually subside.
